Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors.
Thrasher Memorial United Methodist is named after Paul and Sallie Thrasher. Paul and Sallie had a passionate experience of Jesus in the Bonsack area of Roanoke in the 1700's and wanted to bring that excitement and passion to Vinton. Since then people have come to Thrasher to experience the love of Christ. At Thrasher we are empowered in worship and study to share that passion with others in our community and world. You will experience the excitement in whichever worship service, activity or class you attend. Our passion is to share the love of Christ with the you and the world, and to make a difference in our community and the world.
Making Disciples for the Transformation of the World.

Our Beliefs
At Thrasher, we are excited to be part of the United Methodist Church!

What is a United Methodist?
United Methodists are the second largest Protestant denomination in American.

We are a church that encourages a strong, warmhearted, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is at the heart of everything we do.

We are a world-wide church. Not only can you find a United Methodist Church in every county of our nation; you can find a United Methodist Church, Mission, School or Hospital in many communities around the world.
United Methodists are open and inclusive churches.

We are a church of diversity in beliefs, lifestyles and backgrounds. We welcome everyone.

We hold on to the historic doctrines of the Christian faith.

We are a church to help hurting people.

We feed more than a million children every day. United Methodists are known for our emphasis on a personal faith that is lived out in concrete actions in the world.

We continue Christ's ministry of preaching, teaching, healing, and caring. While we value intellect and modern science, we look to the scriptures as God's authoritative word for all faith and practice.

We are willing to ask questions, wrestle with difficult issues, and do so with grace and compassion.
